Wimbledon-Furniture is delighted to offer for auction this absolutely monumental Baker Furniture Stately Homes edition, William Kent 1740, Thomas Chippendale, twin pedestal double sided partners desk RRP £73,000

Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only, for an accurate quote please send me your postcode

Where to begin, this desk is absolutely amazing, it is the only authorised version of the original William Hope 1740 desk available, the original should you wish to buy it would be a good few million pounds

Baker furniture have bought the exclusive rights to be able to perfectly measure to the fine millimetre the original desk and reproduce it with absolutely no expense spare in keeping with all William Kent furniture

The desk is made of the finest solid mahogany and take it from me it is easily five times heavier than any other desk of this size. To the front you have seven large drawers, two of which are double size filing drawers, the right top drawer has one of two sliding and removable butlers serving trays. The back has a further three large drawers and two small bookcases

All drawers bar one have locks, there is a very complicated internal locking system which operates with heavy metal bars, I’m not sure how it works but it looks like you can lock the drawers in the side pedestals and open them again from inside the middle drawer, as mentioned I really have no idea how it works

The desk has been lightly restored to include a deep cleaned hand condition wax and hand polish, its in very very fine order throughout

Dimensions (the desk dismantles into three easy to transport pieces)

Height:- 76.5cm

Width:- 215cm

Depth:- 107cm

Internal leg room:- Width 84.5cm, height 60cm

Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask

This fine William Kent carved mahogany partners Pedestal Desk has a rectangular top with a molded border and inset with a tooled leather panel. The desk is fitted with one long and two short drawers in each frieze, one short drawer and one file drawer in each pedestal, all with shaped gilt brass swan necked drop handles. Each pedestal is flanked by carved termes surmounted with finely carved lion’s masks clasping brass rings. The lower section is carved with acanthus leaves and fish scales and terminates to scrolls on a square shaped plinth carved with gadroon ornament. The desk comes standard in Faded Mahogany finish. English c. 1740.

An English baronet, Sir Humphry Wakefield is a foremost authority on English antiques and architecture. Through these pieces, the Stately Homes collection shows that true elegance and luxury are timeless, spanning centuries, cultures and lifestyles. That’s why the furniture in this collection is at ease in today’s homes as it is in the estates where the originals are still used.
